Gonzalo Canseco

Gonzalo is a political scientist and economist with over 30 years’ experience in public affairs, particularly in foreign policy, strategic planning, and economic affairs.

In the public sector, he spent several years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where, in addition to postings in London and Paris he was also Chief of Staff and Director General for Policy Planning. In the Ministry of Social Development, he also served as Chief of Staff. And in the Mexican Treasury he was Head of International Affairs.

In the private sector, he was Associate Director in PROA/STRUCTURA, a consultancy firm that advises companies, business associations and state governments on strategic communications and public affairs.

On the international stage, he was a technical advisor to Ambassador Patricia Espinosa during her tenure as a member of the High Level Panel appointed by UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon with the task of drafting the policy document that served as a basis for the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. He participated on the COP16 and COP25, and he is currently an external consultant for the Executive Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
He studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University. He has been a professor in the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) and at the Autonomous Technical Institute of Mexico (ITAM).
